At Fraunhofer CCPE, innovative materials and technologies are developed to improve the lifespan and quality of recycled plastics. Here are some of the key approaches:

Plastic Recyclates

Additives play a crucial role in the functionality and durability of recycled plastics. They are added to products to ensure gentle and safe processing and enable long-term properties such as stability.

These include:

- Processing and long-term stabilizers: These additives improve the mechanical properties and durability of plastics.

- Light stabilizers: They protect plastics from the harmful effects of UV radiation, which is particularly important for outdoor applications.

- Compatibilizers: These additives improve compatibility between different plastic types, enhancing the quality and processability of recyclates.

- Odor improvement: A major problem with recycled plastics is often unpleasant odor. Through the use of special additives and processing procedures, the odor of recyclates can be significantly improved.

Special focus »Bio-Additives«: These additives are manufactured from renewable raw materials and offer an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional additives. They can improve the stability and durability of plastics while simultaneously reducing environmental impact.

Plastic Recyclates
From circular economy theory to practice

The circular economy is a central concept aiming at efficiently utilizing resources, minimizing waste, and keeping materials in the economic cycle for as long as possible. Fraunhofer CCPE works intensively to implement these principles in practice and develop innovative solutions for a sustainable future. A key component of the circular economy is the recycling and reuse of materials. By closing material loops, valuable resources can be saved and environmental impact reduced. Fraunhofer CCPE relies on cutting-edge technologies and interdisciplinary research to achieve these goals.
