Digital Product Passports for Circular Plastics Economy

Digital product passports will fundamentally change how we handle, collect, and create value from product information. Product passports will become mandatory in initial industries as early as 2026, requiring companies to improve information management. This creates opportunities for actors along the product lifecycle to develop new services and business models with this data, alongside additional efforts.

Our research findings

Researchers at Fraunhofer CCPE have intensively studied the significance of Digital Product Passports and related concepts such as Digital Twins, focusing particularly on two aspects:

- Cross-actor information provision and use of information by various actors along the value chain (e.g. providing and using relevant product information for recycling processes)

- Including end users in designing product passport applications and considering their needs as well as end user interaction with product passports (e.g. information provision by end users)

Benefit from our researchers' experience in introducing Digital Product Passports for your products and developing new business models and services. More information can be found here: https://www.ccpe.fraunhofer.de/de/leistungsangebot/circular-logistics
