Recycling Technologies

Fraunhofer CCPE researches innovative recycling technologies for currently difficult-to-recycle material flows. The focus is on solvent-based recycling, solvolysis and pyrolysis, as well as mechanical pre-treatment of material flows for application in these processes. Here, Fraunhofer CCPE develops practice-oriented solutions along the so-called »recycling cascade« to optimally close plastic loops. Through advanced recycling processes, materials that would otherwise end up in landfills or waste incineration can be returned to production cycles. This minimizes waste quantities and associated environmental impacts. Discover how interdisciplinary research and close collaboration with industry partners create sustainable innovations and scalable pilot facilities.

Material Flow Calculator: Availability analysis when switching to recyclate-based plastics
Not all recyclates are available in the same quantity and with the same security of supply as primary plastics. Targeted material flow analysis can help identify and evaluate suitable recyclate sources, particularly in the area of post-consumer recyclate streams. With the help of a specially developed material flow calculator, planned recyclate applications can be quickly checked for feasibility.

To be able to circulate the plastics currently on the market in closed loops, new recycling technologies must be developed and plants built. Efficient recycling processes reduce dependence on primary raw materials and strengthen security in supply. They support achieving environmental goals and can contribute to reducing CO2 emissions. Establishing new recycling technologies in the market promotes implementation of national and international circular economy, enabling long-term sustainable business models. »Closing-the-loop« innovations thus strengthen competitiveness and sustainability of Germany as a business location.
