The »Circular Child Seat« is an innovative car seat concept specifically developed for the circular economy. Through the use of textiles and lightweight components from Fraunhofer CCPE based on the so-called »mono-material approach« (based on PET or PLA), the seat can be completely recycled at the end of its service life. The modular design with few, easily separable components facilitates disassembly and recycling. Screw connections were conceptually developed to largely avoid adhesives. Component reuse is thereby simplified. R-Strategies like Refurbish and Remanufacture are significantly facilitated and enable new business models.
This demonstrator shows how product architecture and material innovation are interconnected. Through redesign or completely new product development that rely on circular economy strategies, innovative design concepts can emerge (Circular Design: https://www.ccpe.fraunhofer.de/de/leistungsangebot/circular-design.html). Product-visible circular innovations are useful additions to hidden material-based plug-in solutions and offer case-specific additional economic utilization potential.
